Bangla Language Classes

Teaching Bengali Heritage in Victoria

Bangla Niketan offers the teaching of Bangla language combined with arts subjects using a professionally developed curriculum, delivered face-to-face in a class-room environment.

  • Our Bangla language curriculum is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become fluent speakers, enthusiastic readers of Bangla literature, and proficient writers using its unique script over a period of three to five years.
  • We aim to align with and pursue with the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) for recognition of Bangla as a 3rd Language subject and to allow Bangla Niketan graduates to sit for VCE exam.
  • The curriculum is complemented by arts subjects, aiming to foster students’ talents in visual arts, performing arts, and music, with an emphasis on Bengali cultural heritage and traditions.
  • The curriculum aims to guide students in progressively learning and acquiring the expected knowledge and skills across the defined learning areas. This progression is structured into five levels, grouped within three grades.
Grade Level Number of lessons
Elementary Level 1 (E1) 30 to 40
 Level 2 (E2) 30 to 40
Intermediate Level 3 (I3) 20 to 40
 Level 4 (I4) 20 to 30
Advanced Level 5 (A5) 20 to 30
  • Achieving successful outcomes from this curriculum requires consistent engagement at Bangla Niketan, along with dedicated involvement from parents at home throughout the entire learning journey.
